GeoBene: the Geosite of the Civagno River

30 million years of geological history

An incredible geological journey through the beautiful Menaggio Valley (Lake Como)

Climbing the path of Civagno creek, from the valley upstream, allows to know the history of these places including the more important aspects concerning geology, paleontology and geomorphology.

During its history the Civagno torrent has eroded the surrounding sedimentary rocks which now surface showing their layers and content of fossils.

Visiting the Geosite is easy thanks to an 8 km trail articulated on easily passable paths also represented by a wide cycle path and a mule track.

Along the way the visitor will meet different points of interest called “geostops” with the explanation of the natural characteristics of the observed area.
